The Ports of Lisbon and Setúbal sign partnership with the Port of Santos to promote innovation

The Ports of Lisbon and Setúbal have signed a collaboration agreement with the Port of Santos, Brazil, aimed at promoting port innovation and technical and scientific exchange, particularly in areas such as decarbonization and digitalization. The agreement is valid for two years and was signed at the Intermodal South America 2024, in São Paulo, Brazil.



According to Carlos Correia, President of the APL's Board of Directors, "this partnership represents a strengthening of our connection with the Brazilian market and a joint commitment to innovation in the port sector. We want to leverage the best that each port has to offer and align synergies for the exchange of best practices, making us more dynamic and strategic, with a special focus on the development of innovation, digitalization, and blue cluster projects."


 

The Port of Lisbon is the national leader in agribusiness, with Brazil being one of the leading markets for agricultural bulk exports that is particularly relevant to the Port of Lisbon. In 2023, the Port of Lisbon handled 4.79 million metric tons of solid bulk cargo, of which 3.8 million tons were food solid bulk cargo (79%). In this segment, the Brazilian market accounted for 1.082 million metric tons, equivalent to 28% of food solid bulk cargo and 23% of the total solid bulk cargo handled in 2023.

The Intermodal South America is one of the world's largest fairs dedicated to the logistics, ports, and foreign trade sectors, taking place in São Paulo, Brazil, from March 5th to 7th.
