Restoration and Conservation Works of Almada Negreiros Panels at the Port of Lisbon

The Lisbon Port Administration has signed a collaboration protocol with the WMF Portugal Group for the restoration and conservation works of the Almada Negreiros panels located in the Rocha do Conde d’Óbidos Maritime Terminal. The intervention is funded by the World Monuments Fund in the amount of 427,000 euros, through donations from national and international patrons. The works will begin in the coming days and will be carried out by the NC Restauro - Nova Conservação team.
The signing of this protocol is the result of the Lisbon Port's application to the World Monuments Fund's Watch Program, in collaboration with the Hercules Laboratory at the University of Évora, NC Restauro - Nova Conservação, CEDANSA – Almada Negreiros Sarah Affonso Study and Documentation Center, and the Institute of Art History at NOVA FCSH in Lisbon.
This is the first protocol, as the panels located at the Alcântara Maritime Terminal will also be the subject of a similar partnership for their conservation and restoration.
"The Almada Negreiros panels, besides being an evident symbol of our country's history, created by a unique personality in Portuguese art, are already part of the identity of the Port of Lisbon, which we greatly value and cherish. For this reason, we are naturally pleased to establish this partnership and ensure the conservation of these unique pieces," highlights Carlos Correia, President of the Lisbon Port Administration.
This initiative is part of the redevelopment project for the entire Alcântara area and aims to strengthen the ties of this cultural heritage with the local community.
