Port of Lisbon welcomes sustainable mega-yacht on inaugural cruise journey

The cruise ship Emerald Azzurra is embarking on its inaugural voyage and docks today [April 17th] at the Port of Lisbon, the first European port for the new vessel of Emerald Cruises, the latest luxury cruise line, part of the Scenic group. To mark the passage through the Portuguese capital, the Lisbon Port Authority will present the Captain with the customary commemorative plaque for the occasion, with the ship being escorted by tugboats from the Portugs company. The first stop in Lisbon for the Emerald Azzurra is part of a ten-day transatlantic journey that began in Bridgetown, Barbados, and ends in Civitavecchia, Italy, with stops in Portimão, Cadiz, Malaga, Cartagena, Valencia, Palma de Mallorca, Port Mahon, and Alghero. Built at the Halong Shipbuilding Company shipyards in Ha Long City, Vietnam, this mega-yacht is 110 meters long, weighs 5,175 tons, and has 50 cabins, accommodating 100 passengers and 72 crew members. This mega-yacht is equipped with engines that comply with IMO Tier III emissions regulations, compatible with the MARPOL convention to prevent marine pollution by yachts. It also utilizes advanced heating, ventilation, and air conditioning technology to improve air quality. Exhaust gas energy is recycled and used to heat water. The wastewater treatment meets the most stringent requirements, allowing it to navigate in protected areas.
