Port of Lisbon at the Steering Committee Meeting of the Safari Project
Port of Lisbon was present at the Steering Committee Meeting of the SAFARI project, which took place on February 20th and 21st in Seville.
The main objective of the SAFARI project is to develop a digital platform that enhances the resilience of port infrastructure in the face of extreme weather events.
Port of Lisbon is one of the ports chosen to test the implementation of this platform. The reasons for this choice are its location, as it is an Atlantic port located in an urban center and in the largest national consumer market, its infrastructure, with 14 cargo terminals, and, finally, its economic impact, representing 1,9% of the national GDP and generating 722.475 jobs.
The pilot project will be put into practice at the Alcântara Container Terminal, one of the most modern and strategic in the Atlantic market. The project must ensure the robustness of the infrastructure in the face of extreme disruptive events, such as heavy rains and floods, strong winds, extreme temperatures, or storms and lightning. The objective of implementing the project is to ensure the continuity of operations in adverse conditions, mitigating their impact on logistics chains.
The SAFARI project pilot, to be developed at this terminal, presents a series of challenges that require an efficient and resilient operation. Its implementation will depend on integrated multimodal accessibility, involving road, rail and inland waterway connections.
