Port of Lisbon at the Forefront of Gender Equality
Company Flagship for this National Goal
The Port of Lisbon was honored today with the distinction of being a flagship company for the Gender Equality Goal. The event took place at the Alcântara Maritime Terminal at 9:30 AM and was attended by the Secretary of State for Internationalization. The Administration of the Port of Lisbon joined the challenge presented by the Global Compact Network Portugal under the Target Gender Equality accelerator program, committing to achieving the National Goal for Gender Equality. This goal proposes that by 2030, 40% of Decision-Making Positions should be occupied by women. Anchored in the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 5 - Gender Equality of the 2030 Agenda, the initiative is supported by the Secretary of State for Citizenship and Equality, alongside the CIG - Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality, CITE - Commission for Equality in Labor and Employment, and APEE - Portuguese Association of Ethics.
According to Carla Ribeiro, a member of the Board of Directors of APL, "It is a great honor for the Administration of the Port of Lisbon to be a flagship company in such a particular context as the National Gender Equality Goal. We are deeply committed to achieving this goal by 2030, at a moment that is equally special for us. The Port of Lisbon celebrates 136 years of activity, has witnessed many changes throughout its history, and this distinction reinforces its position at the forefront of social issues."
This recognition comes as part of the celebrations of the 136th anniversary of the Port of Lisbon, which includes two weeks of activities.
