Lisbon Port Welcomes Inaugural Voyage of Cunard Line's Largest Luxury Ship
Today, the port of Lisbon welcomes the new cruise ship Queen Anne, which is embarking on its inaugural journey. The Portuguese capital is the third city to be called upon, following Southampton and La Coruña.
To mark Lisbon's selection as a port of call for Queen Anne's inaugural voyage, the port of Lisbon will present Commander Inger Thorhauge, the first woman to command a Cunard Line ship, with the customary commemorative plaque, with the ship being escorted by tugboats from the Portuguese company.
Carlos Correia, President of the Lisbon Port Administration, considers it "an honor and a great privilege for the Port of Lisbon to have been chosen once again as one of the destinations for the inaugural voyages of Cunard Line ships. Cunard Line ships have already attracted many onlookers to the banks of the River Tagus, both for their first calls and for their international events, such as May 6, 2014, when the Port of Lisbon simultaneously received the '3 queens' of this operator - Queen Mary 2, Queen Elizabeth 2, and Queen Victoria. It was the fourth time in history that the three 'Queen' ships had come together, with the Port of Lisbon being the third where this event took place, in addition to Southampton and New York. It is, therefore, with great enthusiasm that we welcome the visit of the Queen Anne."
The new Queen Anne is the first ship to enter service with Cunard Line in over 10 years and is the company's second largest ship. It has a capacity for 1,225 crew members, can accommodate 2,996 passengers in double occupancy, and 3,353 in maximum occupancy in the 1,397 cabins spread across 8 of the ship's 13 decks. It is 323 meters long and weighs 113,000 tons.
Queen Anne is focused on reducing its carbon footprint through various innovative methods, including alternative fuels and cutting-edge technology, closed-loop circular economies, and the reduction and elimination of single-use plastics.
Queen Anne is not just a cruise ship; it is a symbol of luxury, design excellence, and sustainability, setting a new standard for the cruise industry. The commitment to reducing the carbon footprint and pioneering innovative technologies like the LFC biodigester (a proactive approach to waste management) not only enhances the onboard experience but also ensures compliance with Department of Justice (DOJ) and MARPOL regulations
