II Meeting of Maritime-Tourism Operators at the Port of Lisbon
The II Meeting of Maritime-Tourism Operators at the Port of Lisbon took place on May 27 at the auditorium of the Rocha Conde d’Óbidos Maritime Station, with the theme of Safety.
The meeting was attended by the Chairman of the Board of Directors of APL, Carlos Correia, who began by highlighting the importance of maritime-tourism activity for the port, noting the growth it has seen in recent years, which enhances the prestige of the Tagus Estuary. However, he emphasized the need to be aware of the challenges that such growth entails in a multifunctional port with constant movement of large and small vessels. It is essential that all operators adopt appropriate behaviors respecting the rules of navigation safety in their activities.
These topics were further elaborated by the panel speakers, including Rui Nunes, Director of Port Security at APL, Paulo Vicente, Captain of the Port of Lisbon, and Fernando Braga, from the Division of Ships in Services and Protection. Also in attendance were Teresa Ferreira from Turismo de Portugal, and various MT operators, representatives from For-Mar, ANC, sailing schools, among others.
The increase in maritime-tourism activity and the number of vessels on the Tagus River has heightened the risks associated with shared navigation between different types of vessels and activities, be they merchant marine ships, cruises, passenger transport, nautical sports, or maritime-tourism.
Thus, the main objective of this meeting was to foster reflection on Maritime Safety issues, respect and conduct, and best practices in navigation.
As a conclusion of the meeting, APL will create a multidisciplinary working group to analyze the various issues raised and consequently find solutions that may improve the activity as a whole.
