“Innovation APL” Award

Within the scope of the 100th anniversary commemorations and according to the document “Strategical Orientations for the Port-Maritime Sector”, the Port of Lisbon Authority signed on 8th May a Co-operation Protocol with the Agência de Inovação (Innovation Agency) so as to launch the “Innovation APL” Award.
This way, APL aims at distinguishing the academic research works in the logistics and port-maritime management thus contributing towards the development of national know-how and innovation in this area, comprising two categories: research initiation and research.
We expect the works that are being developed by students and researchers to contribute towards the development of the importance and affirmation of the port of Lisbon, identifying new competencies that will allow to obtain new competitive advantages.

Itinerant University of the Sea

APL supports the Universidade Itinerante do Mar (Itinerant University of the Sea), an initiative of the Oporto and Oviedo Universities directed at university students and whose theme for last year’s edition was: “The Mediterranean, a Meeting Point of Cultures”. The course of the Universityl comprised an academic part and a navigation component with a trip to various Portuguese and Spanish ports and cities, namely Lisbon. On 3rd and 25th August the port of Lisbon associated itself to this initiative by preparing a technical visit and a presentation of the port and of its activity to the students of this course.

Port Cities University League

APL is going to co-operate with the University of Lisbon within the scope of the Port Cities University League (PCUL), establishing a partnership with this entity that is going to allow for the development of research projects of mutual interest.
PCUL is an international project led by the University of Yokohama that aims at establishing a worldwide network of universities situated in cities served by international ports.
Certainly this project of great international visibility will allow for the disclosure and promotion of the port of Lisbon, as well as to obtain important know-how resulting from the various research projects that can be developed in the future.

Still within the scope of co-operation with the universities, during the 1st half of 2007 APL was visited by:

- Students of Architecture of the University of Minneapolis, in the USA
- Students of Tourism of the University of Cher, in Switzerland
