The estuary of the River Tagus, with an extension of 50Km and between 2 and 14Km in width, offers the Port of Lisbon excellent navigating conditions. The main access canal of the port has a depth of -15,5m ZH.

River traffic allows for the transportation of merchandise between the two banks of the estuary as well as along a significant part of the River Tagus itself.
