Celebrity Edge visits Lisbon for the first time
Today [8th may], the cruise ship celebrity Edge visits Lisbon for the first time, one of the destinations of a 15-night transatlantic cruise starting in Fort Lauderdale, ending in Southampton and calls in Ponta Delgada, Lisbon, Bilbao and Le Havre.
Celebrity Edge, the first cruise ship fully designed in 3D- took more than 4 years of planning and 23 months construction period at the L'Atlantique Chantiers shipyards in Saint-Nazaire, France.
With a giant bottle of Badoit sparkling water- in place of the traditional champagne, against the hull, the Celebrity Edge was christened in Port Everglades, Florida, on December 4, 2018, by her godmother Malala Yousafzai, who at age 17 was the youngest to be awarded a Nobel Prize, the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014, for her fight against the repression of children and young people and the right of all children to education.
Being her godmother a defender of education for girls, Celebritty Edge reflects Celebrity Cruises' commitment to opening the world through education and gender equality, an example of which is her crew, about 30% including deck officers are women.
With a length of 306 meters and more than 130,000 tons, the Celebrity Edge has a capacity for 2 918 passengers and 1 377 crew, with 29 dining spaces, with infinite veranda staterooms, with the innovative Magic Carpet platform that extends over the side of the ship and rises from sea level to the top deck deck 16, where it becomes a specialty restaurant for 90 people.
According to the company, the Magic Carpet makes Celebrity Edge’s distinctive profile recognizable from miles away. With the size of a tennis court, the Magic Carpet feat scales the 16-deck ship through the day and evening, positioning at four of the ship’s decks, transforming, in each of them, a completely new experience. Another feature of Magic Carpet is the garden at its top.
Other features of Celebrity Edge worthy of mention are the Grand Plaza, an iconic space that spans three decks in the heart of the ship and acts as the epicenter of the ship where passengers can enjoy different atmospheres throughout the day, and the Rooftop Garden, designed to awaken the child that exist in all of us.
To welcome the first call of this ship, the port of Lisbon will present the Captain with the usual ceremony plaque of the occasion, and the ship will be escorted by Svitzer tugboats.
