Port of Lisbon. Cargo. River Traffic

River Traffic River Traffic
The excellent natural conditions of the port allow for a great variety of river boats for the transfer of cargo between ships and the banks or between both banks.

River transport is, nowadays and specially in the countries of central Europe, a very important means of transport included in a global and integrated system of transport and logistics.
Aware of this reality and seeking new and better ways of boosting the port activity, it is APL's intention to collaborate and support the development of projects that aim at boosting river traffic of cargo in the estuary of the Tagus profiting from its unique navigation conditions as well as the competitive advantages that may arise in terms of general economy in the logistics chain in addition to benefits in terms of environment and energy.
The bet on this type of traffic is going to induce an increase of the intermodality, via the setting up of new Logistics Platforms within the metropolitan area of Lisbon, allowing the increase of the port activity in Lisbon not to provoke significant social and environmental impacts on the city.
